Description
Atmanubhuti and Its Experience
Atmanubhuti is a Sanskrit term that means self-realization or the direct experience of the soul (Atman). It refers to the spiritual awakening in which a person realizes their true nature, beyond the body, mind, and ego. It is not just intellectual understanding but a deep, inner realization of the self’s divine and eternal essence.
-
Inner Peace and Bliss:
In the state of Atmanubhuti, one feels an unshakable peace and joy that is not dependent on external circumstances. This bliss arises from within and surpasses worldly pleasures. -
Loss of Ego:
The sense of “I” and “mine” begins to dissolve. The person realizes they are not the body or the mind but the pure consciousness that witnesses everything. -
Oneness and Non-Duality:
The experience brings a feeling of unity with all beings. One sees the same divine essence (Atman) in everything – this is the realization of Advaita or non-duality. -
Freedom from Doership:
The individual understands that they are not the doer of actions; everything happens through the divine will. This realization lightens the burden of responsibility and stress. -
Fearlessness and Equanimity:
After self-realization, fear, anger, and attachment reduce significantly. One becomes calm and balanced in both pleasure and pain – a state described as sthitaprajna in the Bhagavad Gita.
