यमुना नदी को सर्वतीर्थ कहा गया है।
- पद्म पुराण में कहा गया है: “यमुना सर्वतीर्थानां मधुर्मधुरसारिणी” – यमुना सभी तीर्थों में सबसे मीठी और शुद्ध है।
- यमुनाष्टक में वर्णित है: “जगतीं पुनीति यमुना, जलं शुद्धं, पापं नाशयति” – यमुना का जल शुद्ध है, पापों को नष्ट करता है।
- श्रीमद् भागवतम् में कहा गया है कि यमुना के तट पर स्नान करने से अश्वमेध फल मिलता है और मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है।
- यह जल त्रिदेव (ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, महेश) के अंश से उत्पन्न माना जाता है, इसलिए इसे त्रिवेणी कहा जाता है।
यमुना का जल शारीरिक शुद्धि के साथ-साथ आध्यात्मिक शुद्धि भी प्रदान करता है; इसे पीने या स्नान करने से मन की शुद्धि, रोग‑निवारण और बंधनों से मुक्ति मिलती है।
The Yamuna river is revered as the foremost of all holy waters.
- Padma Purana declares: “Yamunā sarvatīrthānāṃ madhūrmadhurasāriṇī” – Yamuna is the sweetest and purest among all pilgrimage sites.
- Yamunāṣṭakam extols: “Jagatīṃ punīti Yamunā, jalaṃ śuddhaṃ, pāpaṃ nāśayati” – Yamuna’s water purifies the world, is pure, and destroys sin.
- Śrīmad‑Bhāgavatam states that bathing in Yamuna yields the merit of the Aśvamedha sacrifice and leads to liberation.
- It is considered to emanate from the combined essence of the Trimurti (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva), hence called Trivenī.
Drinking or bathing in Yamuna’s water cleanses the body, heals disease, calms the mind, and removes karmic bonds, granting spiritual uplift and, ultimately, moksha.
