ओम्केश्वर में जहाँ नर्मदा “ॐ” के आकार के द्वीप को घेरती है, वहाँ को शिव पुराण और स्कंद पुराण में नर्मदा का “महातीर्थ” कहा गया है। यहाँ एक घूँट या डुबकी से सभी पाप धुल जाते हैं, अश्वमेध यज्ञ के बराबर पुण्य मिलता है और मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है। भक्त अक्सर इस जल को तांबे के छोटे पात्रों में भरकर अपने अल्तार पर रखते हैं, यह मानते हुए कि इसमें शिव की रक्षात्मक कृपा और नर्मदा की शुद्धि शक्ति समाहित है।

Omkareshwar, where the Narmada flows around the sacred “ॐ” shaped island, is hailed in the Shiva Purana and Skanda Purana as the “Maha Tirtha” of the Narmada. A sip or a dip here is said to wash away all sins, grant the merit of an Ashvamedha sacrifice, and bestow moksha. Pilgrims often fill small copper vessels with this water to keep on their altars, believing it carries Shiva’s protective grace and the river’s purifying power.
