Description

According to Hindu scriptures and ancient tradition, the Kali Gandaki River is one of the most sacred rivers on Earth. Its origin lies in the Damodar Kund, situated high in the Himalayas of Nepal, a divine lake mentioned in the Skanda Purana and Varaha Purana. It is believed that bathing or offering prayers at Damodar Kund washes away all sins and grants liberation (moksha).

Flowing from Damodar Kund, the river passes through the sacred region of Muktinath Dham (Shaligram Kshetra) — a revered pilgrimage site associated with Lord Vishnu. The stones found in the Kali Gandaki riverbed, known as Shaligrams, are considered direct manifestations of Lord Vishnu and are worshipped with deep reverence in Hindu homes and temples.

Spiritually, the Kali Gandaki symbolizes the purifying flow of divine grace, connecting the earthly and the eternal. Pilgrims who journey along its path — from Damodar Kund to Muktinath and beyond — are said to experience inner cleansing, peace, and liberation, as described in the Puranas and Vaishnava traditions.
