A Short Life of Sri Ramakrishna
Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa (1836–1886) was a great Indian saint, mystic, and spiritual teacher, known for his deep devotion, spiritual ecstasy, and realization of God through different religious paths. He was born as Gadadhar Chattopadhyay in a poor Brahmin family in the village of Kamarpukur, in present-day West Bengal, India.
From an early age, he showed signs of spiritual sensitivity and often experienced intense religious feelings. As he grew older, he became a priest at the Dakshineswar Kali Temple near Kolkata. There, he had profound mystical experiences and visions of the Divine Mother, Kali, whom he worshipped with deep love and surrender.
Sri Ramakrishna believed that all religions lead to the same ultimate truth. He practiced various spiritual paths—including Hinduism (Bhakti, Advaita Vedanta), Islam, and Christianity—and confirmed that they all led him to the same realization of God. This universal approach made him a symbol of religious harmony and tolerance.
He had many disciples, the most famous being Swami Vivekananda, who later carried his teachings across India and the world, establishing the Ramakrishna Mission to spread his master’s message of love, service, and unity of all religions.
Sri Ramakrishna lived a simple and pure life, focused entirely on God. He passed away in 1886, but his teachings continue to inspire millions of spiritual seekers across the globe
