पंढरपुर की पवित्र चंद्रभागा नदी, जिसे श्रद्धापूर्वक भीमा नदी भी कहा जाता है, हिंदू आध्यात्मिक संस्कृति में एक महान तीर्थ स्वरूपा नदी मानी जाती है। यह वही दिव्य नदी है जो भगवान श्री विट्ठल (पांडुरंग / श्रीकृष्ण) की पावन नगरी को अपने निर्मल जल से आलोकित करती है।

मान्यता है कि पंढरपुर में चंद्रभागा नदी अर्धचंद्र के आकार में प्रवाहित होकर भगवान विट्ठल के चरणों में नतमस्तक होती है। यह वक्रता भक्ति, विनय और समर्पण का प्रतीक मानी जाती है। इसी कारण इस स्थान पर नदी का जल अत्यंत पुण्यदायी और आध्यात्मिक रूप से जाग्रत माना जाता है।

हिंदू परंपरा में चंद्रभागा नदी के जल में स्नान करना पापक्षय, चित्त-शुद्धि और भक्ति-वृद्धि का साधन माना गया है। आषाढ़ी और कार्तिकी एकादशी के पावन अवसर पर वारी में आने वाले भक्तजन भगवान विट्ठल के दर्शन से पूर्व इसी नदी में स्नान कर स्वयं को आध्यात्मिक रूप से शुद्ध करते हैं।

संत ज्ञानेश्वर, संत तुकाराम, संत नामदेव और संत एकनाथ जैसे महान वारकरी संतों ने अपने अभंगों में चंद्रभागा माता की महिमा का गुणगान किया है। ऐसा विश्वास है कि इस नदी के जल में निरंतर नाम-स्मरण, कीर्तन और भक्ति-भाव की दिव्य तरंगें प्रवाहित होती रहती हैं।

अतः चंद्रभागा नदी का जल केवल जल नहीं, बल्कि जीवंत तीर्थ, मातृ-स्वरूपा शक्ति और भगवान विट्ठल की करुणा का साक्षात प्रतीक है।

The sacred Chandrabhaga River, reverently known as the Bhima River, flows through Pandharpur, the holy abode of Lord Vithoba (Panduranga, a form of Lord Krishna). In Hindu spiritual culture, the waters of Chandrabhaga are regarded not as ordinary water, but as a living tīrtha, imbued with divine sanctity.

It is believed that at Pandharpur, the river curves gracefully in the form of a half-moon (Chandra-bhāga), symbolizing humility and devotion as the river bows before Lord Vithoba, who eternally waits for His devotees. This sacred bend makes the river especially auspicious at this holy kshetra.

Bathing in the Chandrabhaga River is traditionally considered an act of spiritual purification, believed to cleanse sins, calm the mind, and awaken pure bhakti. During the sacred Ashadhi and Kartiki Ekadashi, millions of pilgrims immerse themselves in the river before seeking darshan of Lord Vithoba, considering it an essential step in spiritual preparation.

The great Varkari saints—Sant Dnyaneshwar, Sant Tukaram, Sant Namdev, and Sant Eknath—have glorified the river in their devotional abhangas, describing her waters as infused with the mercy and presence of Panduranga Himself.

Spiritually, the Chandrabhaga River is revered as a motherly, compassionate force, eternally carrying the vibrations of nama-japa, kirtan, surrender, and devotion. Even a drop of her water, taken with faith, is believed to bestow spiritual merit.

Thus, in Hindu tradition, the Chandrabhaga River at Pandharpur stands as a symbol of living holiness, devotion, and divine grace.
