हरिद्वार, जहाँ गंगा पहाड़ों से उतरती हैं, सप्तपुरी में से एक है। यहाँ के घाटों से लिया गया जल गंगा का सबसे शुद्ध रूप माना जाता है। काशी‑खंड और पद्म‑पुराण के अनुसार, यहाँ एक घूँट या डुबकी से सभी पाप धुल जाते हैं, अश्वमेध यज्ञ के बराबर पुण्य मिलता है और मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है। भक्त इस जल को छोटे पात्रों में संग्रहित कर घर में पूजा‑पाठ में उपयोग करते हैं, यह मानते हुए कि इसमें माँ गंगा की रक्षात्मक कृपा और यहाँ तपस्या करने वाले ऋषियों का आशीष समाहित है।

Haridwar, where the Ganga descends from the mountains, is one of the seven sacred cities (Saptapuri). The water taken from the ghats here is believed to be the purest form of the divine river. According to the Kashi‑Khand and Padma‑Purana, a single sip or a dip at Haridwar absolves sins, grants spiritual merit equal to performing the Ashvamedha sacrifice, and paves the way to moksha. Pilgrims collect this water in small vessels to keep it at home for daily puja, believing it carries the protective grace of the Goddess Ganga and the blessings of the sages who meditated on her banks.
