Shvetāshvatara Upanishad  

The Shvetāshvatara Upanishad is one of the most important Upanishads of the Yajurveda, known for explaining the nature of Brahman (the Supreme Reality), the mystery of creation, and the path of liberation (moksha). It is attributed to the sage Shvetāshvatara, who revealed these teachings after deep meditation and spiritual realization.

It declares that there is one eternal, omnipresent, omniscient, formless, and all-powerful God who is the source, support, and end of everything.

• God is the creator.

• Maya is His energy.

• The individual soul becomes bound due to ignorance and karma.

(3) The Path of Liberation

Liberation is attained through knowledge, devotion, meditation, self-discipline, and grace of God.

The Upanishad strongly establishes monotheism:

“One God hidden in all beings.”

The Upanishad is unique because it blends both Bhakti (devotion) and Jnana (knowledge).
Meditation purifies the mind and reveals the inner Self.

(4) Practice of Yoga

It gives instructions on yogic discipline, breath control, posture, and inner concentration to realize the Truth.

(5) God as the Source of Everything

He alone:

• Creates the universe

• Sustains it

• Withdraws it at the end

Thus, God is the ultimate cause behind all causes.

1. उपनिषद् का प्रमुख विषय

श्वेताश्वतर उपनिषद् मुख्यतः तीन विषयों पर आधारित है—

(1) ब्रह्म-तत्व (परमात्मा का स्वरूप)

यह बताता है कि समस्त विश्व का कारण एक ही परम तत्व है—परब्रह्म, जो सर्वव्यापी, निराकार, शक्तिमान और शाश्वत है।

(2) मायात्मक जगत् (सृष्टि का निर्माण)

उपनिषद् सृष्टि की उत्पत्ति को माया के माध्यम से समझाता है—

• परमात्मा कर्ता है।

• माया उसकी शक्तियाँ हैं।

• जीव उसके आधार पर कर्मों के कारण बंध जाता है।

(3) मोक्ष का मार्ग

जीव आत्मज्ञान, भक्ति, तप, योग और शरणागति से परमात्मा को प्राप्त कर सकता है।

2. उपनिषद् की प्रमुख शिक्षाएँ

(1) एक अद्वितीय ब्रह्म

ब्रह्म एक है, अद्वितीय है—

“एको देवः सर्वभूतेषु गूढः।”

(2) ईश्वर की करुणा और अनुग्रह

यह उपनिषद् ईश्वर को सर्वशक्तिमान, सर्वज्ञ, दयालु और कृपालु बताता है।

(3) भक्ति और ध्यान का महत्व

यह अद्वितीय उपनिषद् भक्ति को भी मोक्ष का मार्ग बताता है—

• ध्यान द्वारा मन निर्मल होता है।

• ईश्वर स्मरण से आत्मा शुद्ध होती है।

(4) योग का रहस्य

उपनिषद् में मन को नियंत्रित करने और ईश्वर-साक्षात्कार हेतु योग को अत्यंत आवश्यक कहा गया है।

(5) ईश्वर ही जगत् का कारण

वह कारणों का भी कारण है—

• वही सृष्टि करता है

• वही पालन करता है

• वही संहार करता है
